I figured out why he chews his feathers! But what to do?

So, I figured out why my grey has developed the habit of chewing his feathers.

I did address this issue a few months back, when he first started, and I have since then followed the advice, and it has toned down a lot. Some feathers have grown back. However... He still does it, and I have noticed what triggers it.

My grey NEEDS to be around me constantly. As soon as I get up, and walk away for any reason. He gets all nervous. He poops, then does his whistle of dispair and gets into a take off position. Well knowingly that his buffalo wings can't carry him anywhere. It's at this point he lifts his wings and stuffs his head under one of them and starts chewing away. Needless to say it breaks my heart whenever I see this.

Anyone who has experience with something similar?

My grey is not a plucker but she does like to be with me. So I have ceiling hanging perches throughout my house and when I first got her I showed them all to her and sat her on them. If she contact called me, I would answer her and it usually made her happy and quiet. When I first got her she was clipped so she would walk after me and climb up the knotted ropes I had hanging from the hanging perches. Now that she can fly she knows to go to the perches so she can watch me doing whatever. Now I do have a re-homed male eclectus that is a plucker. He would call me if he couldn't see me and I would call back or sing to him. He was severally clipped and still can't fly. He does walk from his cage to smaller cages I have in the main rooms of the house as he too loves to be able to see me. It has taken awhile but he has stopped plucking basically. I am hopeful that he will grow his feathers back, at least as many as will regrow. I do spray him with Aloe Vera juice or Feather-In every other day and that seems to help with any irritation Sully may have with new feathers coming in. Dr. Flock, Dave007 the Moderator of the Health Room, is extremely knowledgeable so I know he will be able to help you. He has done wonders for my Sully.
