Hi everyone

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm Christine from Milton keynes UK. I have 2 parrots, Dolly my African Grey, and Willow my Black headed Caique. Dolly was 2 in May 2010, and willow is just 8 months.

Dolly only comes to me, she will bite anyone who dares to go near her. I can handle her with no problem (yet) she is a real fussy eater, dislikes most fruit and veg, likes lettuce, and the odd bit of fruit occasionally, one day she'll chuck it in disgust, next day she may nibble a tiny bit then chuck the rest. She's a great talker, she says some of the 8 times table, she sings 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, she whistles the laurel and hardy tune, she chats and chats constantly, One freaky thing...she calls my name as my Mum used to. We had my Mum living with us. Sadly my Mum died last year. Its cute to hear her say it just like my Mum, but very sad at the same time as i miss her terribly. Anyway, i'm rambling.

Thanks for having me

Christine.

Hello Christine and welcome to our family and we are so glad you could join us.

Dolly sounds like she is quite a character and must be a great joy to you as she chats throughout the day.

My grey Josey will only come to me but she will give my hubby kisses, she doesn't even bite me but she has never bitten anyone, of course no one gets close enough for her to bite for she usually puffs up when too close to her so they back off.

Thats a two way sword about her calling your name like your Mum used to do but try to look at it positively, she must have liked the way she said it and thats why she repeats it, just think of it as a happy reminder for you will miss her terribly any ways.

Now all we need is some pictures of Dolly and Willow if you would be so kind to share some with us.

My Grey used to yell at my old dog in my voice. He'd yell his name when the dog was sound asleep & then laugh like crazy when the dog came straight up off the floor out of a sound sleep.

The dog's been gone for 15 years, but every so often, Phenix will still call for him (versus yell). And even though it makes me a little sad, it always makes me stop to remember. These parrots have many surprising ways of effecting our lives.

Welcome to parronting & our adventures in it.

Hi Christine, welcome to our family ~ hope you enjoy it here! Dolly sounds like a right one! I have a friend whose uncle died recently and their AG is 45 and speaks in her uncle's voice - they found it really creepy at first - but now find it an incredible comfort. I can't wait to hear more about you all.

I found this extremely helpful in posting picture - hope it helps!
