Georgiesmum
We live in the country and there are 3 swallows nests stuck to the house. Or so i thought till i checked on them today and realised one was gone! I looked down and here it was on the ground and 3 little dead babies scattered around the path And the 2 mammy and daddy birds sitting on the little bit of nest still stuck to the wall like they didnt know what was after happening. My partner is going to bury them when he gets home from work Edited June 8, 2010 by Georgiesmum

Joolesgreyuk
I'm going back 20 odd years now but we used to have housemartins' nests stuck to our house (and neighbouring houses)under the guttering where we lived and every spring this occured somewhere in the neighbourhood but it is very upsetting when you see it and you are powerless to help. One year we could even see the distressed mother frantically screetching and flying around as if looking for her babies and crying for help. There was one woman who used to lean out of her bedroom window and knock the nests off with a broom, it used to make me really angry but some people are just plain uncaring and ignorant. Lord knows how long it took those birds to build the nests.

pearllyn
How sad. It's still early enough for Mum and Dad to start again though and have a healthy brood. Bless your man for burying them.
judygram
I have a nest of house wrens in one of my hanging baskets in among the flowers, I noticed it when I went to water the plant and there were 3 little blue eggs, I carefully watered the plant taking care not to get the nest wet and hung it back where it was, a few days ago they hatched and I continue to water the plant but I enjoy watching the babies open their mouths for food, soon they will be on their own and gone, I usually have at least one nest in the many baskets I hang out in the spring.
