Kinda odd...

.... but Marley does not eat his fruits and veggies. The breeder said he does and I saw in his cage that they did have fruits and veggies available to him. I have tried bowls full of options, reduced options, one thing over another, and I just can't figure it out. He doesn't even eat his monkey bread. All he will eat is his seed. I've even tried not offering that and only offering the fruits and veggies. His second day home with me he ate them but now he won't. Any ideas? I'm stumped...

Hi Heather - they are stubborn little so and sos! Seed to them is junkfood heaven - put it this way - offer your human child a BigMac or a plate of salad and I'm guessing you'll be left with the lettuce leaves!!

You have to be sneaky and make them more attractive to Marley. Chop them up small (to hide them amongst stuff) or get yourself a fruit/veg skewer to go in his cage (Harvey eats most of his veg this way). Make it interesting for him - add some spices (chilli/cinnammon/ginger) to make it more palatable.

Don't worry - we all go through it!! :)

Also keep in mind that he is in a new place with new surroundings, sounds and routines than he was used to so his appetite might be off for a few days. Give him time and try the chopping fine and mixing in the seeds as Jilly Beans suggested it does work they have to get some in those beaks just eating the seeds. It also helps to remove any food source at night and offer the veggies first thing in the morning when they are the most hungry they are more likely to dig in.

I fed my fids their chopped fresh vegetables first in the morning when they are probably most hungry. I give a couple of pecans or cashews for treats during the day. Then I introduce some fruits, apples, tangerines, whatever in the afternoon. If my dinner is something they can eat they get some of that also. They get nuts and seeds when they are put into their cages at night. They always have pellets and dried vegetables and fruits in their cages during the day. This works for me and my fids. As long as your grey is healthy he won't starve himself so you are really in charge of what he is given to eat. The same as it is for children.
