Marley is home!

So I went and picked up Marley today! The breeders said they held him this morning and he just sat there like a good boy but very quiet - not too chirpy. I put him in my lap when I go there and he just talked my head off and nuzzled my cheek! What a sweet boy! The dogs are doing good about him too. I let them each take a turn and sniff his tail and Marley was quite interested in him. Now he is old news and the dogs are less interested LOL I have his cage set up and he is has been exploring all morning. Seems quite happy with his setup. I will post pics soon! Thanks everyone for your kind words and helpful information! I'm very excited to have Marley and be apart of this great forum!

Congrats on bringing Marley home, now the real fun begins but it sounds like it is off to a good start, remember never to leave him out of his cage if the dogs are present but then you knew that already didn't you.

I can't wait to see some pictures when you get around to it.

1st night with Marley went smoothly! He has already learned how to hold my hand (step up) and he loves to bathe! He didn't eat anything yesterday but enthusiastically demolished his fruits and veggies this morning. The breeder said he had difficulty navigating their cage but he doesn't seem to have any issues with mine. He likes YouTube videos of other Greys and keeps trying to mimic them... Even my 'Tiel has been more vocal since yesterday - making lots of cooing noises. The only 'odd' thing that Marley does is when he sits on my chest he puts his beak against the end of my eyebrow and just sits there. I think he is trying to go to sleep but since he is at the end of my eye I can't see if his eyes are closed or not. Any input?

I think he is just so happy to be in his new home he is savoring the moment or he could be taking a rest but you don't mind do you, I wouldn't, enjoy it for it may not last.

Its great to hear he had a good first night and I look forward to hearing more about your "discoveries" with Marley.

Ohh my. This is always such a great moment. I will never forget driving Issac home from the breeders is an little box lined with cloth, looking over at him from time to time to make sure he wasn't scared of the ride. His little head just suspended and looking at me innocently with aprehensive trust that I would be bringing him somewhere safe. There is no way to put into words how wonderful it is to bring them home. I am always happy to read about these moments, thank you for sharing. Have a wonderful time with your new baby. :) He's a gorgeous bird.

He took a few naps sitting with me yesterday but he started the eyebrow thing this morning. It doesn't bother me, I think it's adorable - I was just curious if it was normal behavior. My cockatiel does it too but he likes to put his head under my chin and sleeps that way. My 'Tiel's favorite time is his nap time with Mom :)

I was pretty worried about the adjustment. I was curious as to how he was going to handle it. But this morning I heard him chirping in his cage and I went to his room to take him out and he was just so excited to see me. He started singing and chirping nonstop and to him I just couldn't get that door open fast enough.

I have to go take my foster dogs to the adoption fair at one of the local pet stores - I hope they find "furrever" homes. And maybe I'll take the opportunity to do a lil more toy shopping for all the kids.... since ya know, I'll be up there any and I guess I might as well ;) Sooo many babies to spoil :)

Heather, one thing I will say is be very careful. Your Marley is a baby and very cute right now but as they get older they are much more unpredictable and it may be a good idea not to encourage Marley to be that close to your face especially near the eyes, believe me I know as I had a very close call just recently. I managed to blink at the time and it was my eyelid that got nipped - totally out of the blue so please be careful.

Now I remember seeing him, we have so many members that I forget who has posted a picture and who has not, thanks for indulging me again.

Jules is right, he is a baby right now but in the coming months and years you will learn more about his personality and whether you can trust him near your face, right now is probably ok but some greys prove they should not be close and some can, mine is one that I trust to be close to me, she gives me kisses.

Oh how I love babies! Marley is absolutely beautiful. The times that you share will mould your relationship over the coming months and years. This time is so precious. You learn each other's faults, you learn each other's moods - you learn and live together. I hope you enjoy your journey with Marley - it is a fantastic experience over the next coming months, and your life will never, ever be the same again - they change your life!
