judygram Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 Glad you got your scale, but 174 grams is a lot on the small side, are you sure of that weight?
danmcq Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 Is your Grey a TAG or a CAG? A CAG minimum is normally > 400 Grams and a TAG > 275 Grams.
CeasarsDad Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 That can't be right boomer.. 174 grams is WAY too small.. Double check your scale and it's settings and check again.. If your bird really is 174 you need to be thinking about a VET visit FAST.. .
CeasarsDad Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 This is a perfect example of why scales are a MUST.. If you own any type of parrot you should also own a scale.. You buy a cage... you buy a scale..
Bronxboomer Posted August 10, 2007 Author Posted August 10, 2007 I'm sorry ppl i must of not notice what i was typeing inn LOL i ment 374grams
danmcq Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 WHEW !! Thats a GReYT mistake to have made. We were all down on the Floor doing the 3 stooges Curly Spinning in circles ....:woohoo: :woohoo: {Emotions-00020120}
Bronxboomer Posted August 10, 2007 Author Posted August 10, 2007 My Grey is a Cag he is only 6 months old I think he still has more weight to go!!!
judygram Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 Nah, he won't put on any more weight now, but you really had us going there, he was about to dry up and blow away.:laugh: :blink: :woohoo: :blink: :lol:
dblhelix Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 374 is fine Boomer (though 174 obviously was concerning!). Kip is ~365, female, CAG, perfectly healthly and happy. Do you know if you have a male or female? Just curious as females are "generally" smaller than males. But so long as the birds weight is stable you are in the normal range (though at the lower end)...
Makena Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 Wow... Makena is HUGE then! He is only 3 months old and weighs 430g!! I guess he won't be getting much bigger...
eve Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 Yeah more small Congos! Tonka is about 375g, small but built like a tank, I say Nice to see some smaller CAGS around, everyone's CAGS around here that I see are all huge compared to my little squirt...<br><br>Post edited by: eve, at: 2007/08/10 08:15
Guest briansmum Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 makena he will get a little bigger but probably lose some weight when he's weaning, cos he's still full of all that baby food. and boomer 374 is fine, my guy weights about that too.
Bronxboomer Posted September 3, 2007 Author Posted September 3, 2007 Good News ppl my Grey now weights 380grams he went from 374 to 380. He sure is eating alot
lovemyGreys Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 Way to go keep monitoring him , The normal range for weight is between 400 and 650 grams, but just below is OK, some birds are just small er, as long as he is healthy & eating that's fine.
Guest Monique Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 Having a scale is great. Weigh him regularly and write it down. Of course right now he will be growing but later on this will be your first (and sometimes only) indicator if he has some sort of sickness that you need to attend to.
