Male or Female???

This is a general parrot question, and I think I may already know the answer to this, but I thought I'd ask anyway. Are male parrots more aggressive then female parrots during the breeding season? I've seen what our little Chicken-Demon (Piper) can be like during this time, and it's big-time ugly. Is this not as big of a problem for females?

In general African Greys do not have the same seasonal aggression that is seen in their South American counter parts (like Amazons for example). That is not to say that once sexually mature they do not exhibit some behavioral changes and aggression, but they are known to be less significant than in other birds. Regarding the differences between male and female behavior I will defer to some of our members that have (or have had) sexually mature birds of each sex to comment and/or experience with this issue. ;)

This varies from bird to bird and breed to breed. I know male amazons can be very aggressive during breeding season or so they say.

My male quaker plucks more during the spring.

When my pair go to nest the male gets much more protective of his cage.

However my male amazon seems the same all year long. Sweet and loving.

So that blows the whole males are more aggressive in amazons out of the water.
