JillyBeanz Posted April 2, 2010 Share Posted April 2, 2010 I receive a monthly newsletter and this month it discusses the relative "drabness" of the African Grey - excerpt as follows: "The African Grey is a colourless bird, which shows little in the way of beauty in comparison to that of a Macaw or Amazon Parrot. African Grey parrot owners do not appreciate when they purchase such specimens that the visual aspect of a grey is often overlooked in the early months, until after the baby flees the nursery at one year old. Owners often realise at this point that the African Grey is one of the most unattractive birds to buy out there on the open market, and are often compared to pigeons" It goes on a little further but then: "One way of overcoming this problem has been developed by Brian Edmunds, of the Parrot Entertainment News In Summary Club of Southern Australia. Brian has devised feather colouring kits that can be applied to the African Grey in order that they can be more attractive to the human eye. Kits include dye, gloves and comb in order to target the specific areas chosen" It then goes on with the sales pitch: "Colours include, Pink, Cyan, Turquoise, Magenta, Lime Green and Florentine Red, one colour is 15 dollars". I am not sure whether to order one or not - you have to agree, they are a little "pigeon looking". Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Luvparrots Posted April 2, 2010 Share Posted April 2, 2010 Oh my goodness!!!! I frankly appreciate the fact that Ana Grey is "plain." One of my fears is that someone will accidentally "borrow" her. I have been trying to teach to her say, "I'm a pigeon" (so far no luck) I think it would be a great kick in the pants when people think about it later and realize pigeons don't talk!!! :laugh: :laugh: Jill are you getting Harvey a color or two???? jessdecutie18 Posted April 2, 2010 Share Posted April 2, 2010 That's crazy! I think Yoshi is beautiful... we like her dark feathers. And the tail adds a bit of flare... But... you know... a rainbow bird would be so much cooler... so I'm going to buy ALL the colors and paint my birdy like a canvas!!!!!! JK Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
katana600 Posted April 2, 2010 Share Posted April 2, 2010 The audacity of someone deciding our birds are the most unattractive. :ohmy: I was expecting an April Fools declaration at the end of this one. Sooooo... when you have a scintillating, fascinating, spectacular personality and an intelligent captivating mind... you don't need fancy feathers to draw in a crowd. That is my grey theory and I'm sticking to it. Pretty wears thin with time and our greys are timeless. LOL. I love my Kopi and think he is the most beautiful boy although.. I have seen him using palm oil as a cosmetic. He must have read that article. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
judygram Posted April 2, 2010 Share Posted April 2, 2010 "The african grey is a colorless bird" What a pile of crap that statement is, besides beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I will not waste another word on such blarney. {Communicate-0002011A} Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
JillyBeanz Posted April 2, 2010 Author Share Posted April 2, 2010 Well, you lot are far too clever - it was of course an April's Fool! Why oh why does nobody believe a word I say!!!! I thought the abbreviations of the club that Brian belonged to might give it away Mind you, I'm thinking of the magenta if it ever does come on the market :laugh:

Post edited by: JillyBeanz, at: 2010/04/02 11:29 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Joolesgreyuk Posted April 2, 2010 Share Posted April 2, 2010 All joking aside here. I beg to differ that; a, greys look like pidgeons - maybe to a child or the simple-minded. An african grey looks NOTHING like a pidgeon. I've never seen a pidgeon that has a red tail, a hooked beak or that can talk for that matter. There are many other more subtle differences. b,that they are more unattractive when they are older. As Beau has been shedding his baby tail feathers, the new ones are more red and vibrant than the old ones. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
JillyBeanz Posted April 2, 2010 Author Share Posted April 2, 2010 Julie - calm down, it was only a joke (I definitely don't fall into the category of a child, so perhaps simple minded)! I sharp noticed the mistake when I picked the wrong one up from the breeders and it started "cooing" and kept flying out the door to a shed 100 miles away. It was then I returned and got the parrot. Joolesgreyuk Posted April 2, 2010 Share Posted April 2, 2010 Not aimed at you Jill, just the ignorant, non-bird-owning joe public who can't tell the difference. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Luvparrots Posted April 3, 2010 Share Posted April 3, 2010 Jill will always be Jill. Now Jill you should have your 5-year-old niece tell you the story about "The Boy Who Cried Wolf." Someday all your joking around is going to kick you in the buttock. We all have to remember this old saying "fool me once shame on Jill, fool me twice shame on me" and take what Jill tells us with a grain of salt or we will all loose our sanity. But isn't this why we love our Jill???? {Feel-good-0002006E}

Post edited by: luvparrots, at: 2010/04/02 21:48 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
