crossfit
I have two large decks that we tend to practically live on during the summer. In addition, we tend to leave the doors open to them to keep our home cool in the summer evenings. I am thinking of enclosing them so that Hawkins can be out with us or doesn't have to be caged when we have the doors open. Has anyone done this and have tips or plans? judygram
You could screen one of them in and that would allow you to be in the open air and keep Hawkins safe, if I were you and had a deck that is what I would do.
crossfit
To be honest, I am thinking of screening them both in. One is west facing but its the one that we leave open to cool the living room. The large one is south facing and gets sun even in the summer and is off the kitchen. I just panic at the thought that someone might open one of the doors without checking to see if he is out or in the cage first. The front door is easier as it opens to a mud room so it has double doors.
jessdecutie18
sounds like a good idea to me Our porch is screened in... we don't go out there that much but it's nice that Yoshi has the option to go out there.
pearllyn
It's a great idea, just take extra precautions, like maybe a screen or curtain hanging over the outer door so there's no chance of him escaping. When we move, Alfie is going to get her own garden that's full of parrot safe planats and trees, that she can sit out in the sun, and where we can join her! Good luck and pictures please when you're done!
crossfit
These decks are both on upper levels of our house so there isn't a door to outside if I enclose it completely. The only door would be back into the house. If I don't do the complete larger deck, then I was thinking of doing one of those double door rooms I have seen on the aviary's at the San Diego Zoo. Lyric
My front porch is enclosed with screen and I just love it. The birds like to sit out there and enjoy the scenery and listen to wild birds chirping. Since I'm in the midwest we don't get to use it all year round as it gets too cold in the wintertime, but it's nice in the spring through fall and it also has the added benefit of protecting us all from mosquitoes. I don't leave them on it unattended because they tend to get spooked easily and I don't want them flying around in there and hurting themselves. I say go for it, I don't think you'll regret it. esknomoe
I live in Central Florida, so summers are too hot for the screened porch during the daytime; but this time of year, it's great. I keep the outside screen door closed, which annoys the dogs, because they can't just run in and out at will. But I sit out there all the time with Brutus. I have one of his play perches out there; but he usually just sits on the back of my chair, looking for head scratches.
