fugue27
hi i am living the middle east i would like to know if it is alright to place the african grey parrot in the terrace since i will be transfering to a new flat and my new flatmates does not want the bird inside the house
danmcq
Thats not a good spot for a bird. It goes against all the things a bird needs: 1. Being a part of the flock and in the room the most time is spent by the household members. 2. A safe environment with controlled temperatures and humidity. 3. Lots of mental stimulation. When a bird gets caged as you describe, they become almost a second thought to people instead of being viewed as a family member.

Post edited by: danmcq, at: 2010/03/15 16:
Elvenking
Yeah, I would say you have a problem if your flatmates do not want the bird inside. I wouldn't even considering living with anyone who would not consider my bird as part of the family. I sincerely hope that you find a good home for you and your bird to be together. judygram
I have to agree with the others, the terrace is no place for your bird, they need to be around their family, in the middle of what is going on, made to be a part of the "flock" I am afraid if you put this grey where it will not be around the family it will start plucking or some other bad behavior. kittykittykitty
Is it possible your prospective flatmates don't understad how complex and intelligent our greys are, what their needs are and the joys that they bring us as part of our families? If educating them doesn't solve the problem I agree you need to make other housing arraingments. The best of luck.
crossfit
Another reason to not have the bird live out on the terrace is hawks. There are all sorts of predator birds that even if they can't get into the cage to get your bird, will scare it terribly. This is not a healthy way to live. Luvparrots
What is the reason that the flatmates don't want your grey in the house? Greys are social creatures and being outside is certainly not the place for one. Personally, I would find different people to live with. I hope you can work this out. JillyBeanz
Great news! I am so glad you have reconsidered your living plans to accommodate your baby (which you must do above all else)! But, if that balcony in the Middle East is still going spare.......well, it's pretty cold here in the UK - I could do with some warmth myself  Keep us updated how things go. Luvparrots
That is fantastic news. I think that both you and your grey will be much happier. You joined the forum a while back but didn't say much about yourself or your grey. What is your grey's name by the way. Please tell us a little more about the two of you. katana600
I am also glad for you to have found a different arrangement. The heat and sand dust may have been a hardship for your grey. But like the others have mentioned, being put into relative seclusion would have been harder on him than the elements. You would miss him a lot too. judygram
I'm so glad to hear you found other living arrangements, as others have said you put your grey first and foremost, thanks so much for letting us know and do tell us more about you and this grey of yours.
