i too thought about getting an atom for tigerlily.

the only place i have found them is here

http://www.motherpluckinbirdtoys.com/

but as you can see they're not exactly cheap!!!

then i was just scanning the web and came across this site

http://board.birdchannel.com/Topic167992-47-1.aspx

so i gave it a try and this is my outcome

obviously tigerlily doesn't apprieciate it yet and im gonna hang a toy through the middle but one day she WILL love it ;)atom_3.jpg

Post edited by: Tigerlily, at: 2010/03/01 21:30

Yeah...Issac is still young and very receptive to new things...especially anything 'ropey'. I am a hair away from dropping the 135.00 on the large 22" one. I just have to go home tonight and plan its mounting so I know I have placement covered. Looks like those Mother Pluckers are the only true outlet for em...figures. But after reading a thread about the quality and how much birds love them....they did no favors for me regarding saving my money...but have damned near sold me on this thing. Ohh...my bird is so spoiled.

I looked at the home made one too, that looks pretty cool. I will have to review how it's made after work. I know that Issac likes the type of materials he can sink his talons into, he loves his boings.

Post edited by: Elvenking, at: 2010/03/01 21:53

I got the medium one.. I think it is $100. My Timneh, Caique, and Pionus just love it. It was the best $100 I ever spent on the birds. The quality is outstanding and IMO far outdoes anything the average person can create. I say go for it! You won't be sorry you did!

Post edited by: Veenyx, at: 2010/03/02 05:52

Yeah....I have seen the atom just loved by birds...and every thread I have read has absolutely nothing to say but good things. Just trying to figure out if I should go with the large for my congo...45 dollar difference from the 90 dollars the medium costs. And he is a big bird for a grey. Oh I am so Jealous!!! I want one for calypso so bad, Just cant afford it right now :( :( :( OH well, Let us know how he likes it, I know calypso is afraid of some things, so I would be just sick  if I dropped the money on it and she hated it, Yikes! I am going to try that hula hoop one though, thats a great idea, Then if she likes it I will start seeing about saving for a nice one!!! :P

Yeah...I hung a temporary swing from the same position last night. It's made of that same twisty rope stuff they can sink their talons into. He loves it! I think he enjoys the fact that he can get high up sometimes. It was swaying and spinning a bit too much before...so I anchored it to the cage a bit. But he went right to it. I think the atom is going to be a hit. I like the fact that you can hang something in the center for him to get too. Bird fun!

I've looked everywhere in the uk for one of these but as Julie says they're impossible to come by! However, I think I may be creative enough to cover some hula hoops with vetwrap!! I'm gonna give it a go!!

Thanks for the idea Tigerlily!

I wasn't suprised to see that it was a small mom & pop shop putting these things out given the care and quality invested into them. I found out that tax season was not going to be a brutal as I thought and immediately remembered the atom. Issac LOVES anything made of that kind of rope that they make.

It is hard to believe that 5 weeks ago when I brought him home...I got him like 3 small toys to play with. Now he has a small playground of stuff to keep him entertained. I hope they ship it soon. I have the cable and hook ready to go. :)

Here is a bad phone picture of his current cage and play area. BirdCage.jpg

Post edited by: Elvenking, at: 2010/03/03 21:47
