Joerawlings23
Hey guys! i adopted a blue front amazon yesterday. he is 15 years old. i got him from a lady who had a sick son that she had to take care of. any way she had him for the past 14 years. and he has never lived in a cage he has a big play stand he stays on. she said he never comes off unless she would go get him. so i did some reasearch an read that these guys are kind of agressive at times, she told me she has never had any problems with him. should i get him a cage or should i just let him be on the stand? if on the stand he will have to be in my bed room with the door closed. i have an cag also. he lives in a cage in the main room in the house. how should i introduce them? should i just move the BFA in the room with him or should it be a process? Jayd
Welcome to the Grey Forum and the Amazon room.. Whats his name, please lets see some pictures...It's my opinion that I would cage him for safety reasons. It might take a while to get him used to a cage, you could also just get him a "Sleeping cage" for bed time, you could use a carrier to help train him. My suggestion,[we have CAGs and Zons] Your CAG is prime bird[flock leader?]so make sure your attention is directed toward your CAG, so he doesn't feel put out, take your time. Example: Greet your CAG 1st and when leaving, make sure he is the last one you talk to.... Karma Jay Note: Maybe you should post the CAG question in the Grey Lounge also... This site has some good info on your parrot... http://www.avianweb.com/bluefrontedamazon.html

Post edited by: Jayd, at: 2010/02/22 04:

Luvparrots
Congratulations and karma for adopting an older bird. I agree with Jay that you should have a cage for your amazon, I believe it is much safer for our fids if they are caged when we aren't around. Before you get your fids together however I would make sure that the new bird is healthy. Has he seen a vet recently? Can't wait to hear more about your new amazon and see some pictures! By the way, what's his name?
