Eckobird
I have a maple tree branch with the bark peeled off inside Eckos cage. I soaked it in vinegar and hot water for about an hour and then I let it dry in the hot sun before I put it in his cage. Here is a link of safe and unsafe wood for birds. http://www.mdvaden.com/bird_page.shtml
JillyBeanz
Davie - I have a java branch in Harvey's cage. Already treated and safe from the manufacturer. They are tough, durable, easily cleaned and best of all great for his feet with the different sizes offered all over the branch. I do go and get apple branches during the summer - but it's a right faff. Great idea Caitlin - loved the bit about the hot sun - Davie and I are from the UK...........yip - there lies the problem!!! Send some sun to us  That's a great link too Caitlin - thanks for that
