Parrot sitter needed in Lancashire. UK

Therefore we have an Arfican Grey called Geordie who needs an occasional babysitter.

Specifically by which, I median somewhere she can go while we go on holiday. Despite that she used to go to a family living close by who had parrots of they're own but they have moved down to Devon.

There is no panic about this as we do not have any holidays facetiously booked but

I like to try & get things sorted for her welfare well in advasnce.

We tried a pet hotel once but to be honest, we were very unhappy when we got her back after a week and she was screaming when we went near her cage. That was a long time ago and she doesn't do that any more but it took us a few weeks to get her back to her normal happy self.

That is there are a few pictures of her on my ebay page which is here....

On the whole http://members.ebay.co.uk/aboutme/geordie_the_parrot/

So what do we need?

Somebody willing to look after her for up to 2 weeks once a year.

To a great extent somebody with experience of parrots.

Somewbody with room for her cage in the family room. (27" x 17" x 56" including removable stand)

Somebody who accepts that we need to visit a few times with Geordie to make sure they and geordie get along.

Otherwise she's so tame it's stupid but I'll admit she is very wary of small children (under 5) Notwithstanding because they tend to move fast. She has no problem going to and mysteriously interacting with other people but prefers men to handle her.

Although we'' provide food, toys etc and will make an arrangement with the siters nearest avian vet to deal with any emergency that may arise.

And then we live in Blackburn, Lancashire so if there are any parrot lovers living nearby (50 miles or so) please post here or e-mail me.

Formerly many thanks, Steve ps, if anyone is in the same boat re babysitters, feel free to leave your bird with us while you enjoy a holiday (no charge)

Hello

I live in Preston, Lancashire I wouldnt mind looking after your african grey as I noticed you needed someone to look after Georgie. I currently have an African Grey called dexi 4 year old male congo african grey who can talk for England. I have room for her cage with no problem and she would get all the attention she deserves. I am going to be studying animal care in september and I am commited to animals especially parrots and of course Dexi.

Thank you dawn

Hi Carol,

I doubt I can help, as I'm not around the area, but I was wondering - aren't there places you can host your parrot for a week?

Something similar to the dog's pensions.

If you got your Grey from a breeder you might ask them to keep your baby. In any case I would try to find a reputable breeder to keep her or maybe they could give you a good reccomedation. Most people are not bird people and would not have the slightest idea of how to care for them. I almost had to go into the hospital so I called my breeder and he was glad to do it should I need him.
