Tycos_mom
Darius has been a little hormonal for the last couple weeks and is doing thing more like a girl bird rather than a boy. S/he has been Going into the bathroom and pulling the towel off the rack and tearing it apart. when s/he is in there s/he won't let anyone enter. If I shut the door then s/he camps out side the door and won't let any one in except me. I think s/he is in love with my GCC because s/he sits on his cage for hours chatting away to him. Darius has never bit me up until this last week and has bit me hard twice when I tryed to get him to stepup off of Sprouts cage. My 14yr old daughter is afraid of him and this makes things very difficult. Darius sences her fear and will not let her into the bathroom. I'm going have to figure out something else to do with him I may just have to finally get around to turning the spare room into a bird room. This is somethimg I've been meaning to do for a whole year. Now I don't have much choice it has to be done.
pearllyn
Sorry to hear about the spot of trouble you're having with Darius, Pat. Being bitten is hard, but watching conflict between two people you love is even harder. On a positive note, at least you will soon be finally able to score that bird room off your to-do list!! I hope it settles things down for you!
Joolesgreyuk
Pat I do sympathise, I'm having similar problems here but it's reassuring to know that even someone as experienced as you can fall foul to the dreaded macaw beak
JillyBeanz
I know what you mean about the kids being afraid ~ mine both won't try to handle Harvey anymore after receiving a couple of "bad nips". Macaws are so big too - so I do understand why your daughter is apprehensive. If you have the room - and you don't have another requirement for it - go for it - turn it into a bird room. This will stop the unneccessary worry that you are having now
BaxtersMom
I'm sorry you are going through the hormonal phase with Darius. Hopefully it will pass soon. Bonkers my conure never really got out of his hormonal phase and it's been about 8 months. It's better but he's been so unpredictable since last June. It's pretty sad. I can see why so many parrots end up in shelters when an unsuspecting owner enters the hormonal stages. I know that you are well equipped to handle anything that comes your way though. judygram
You are an amazing woman Pat, you have a lot to deal with, much more than I could handle but you are probably right about Darius. At least it has given you the impetus you needed to get going on turning that spare bedroom into a bird room, can't wait to see the finished project. Tycos_mom
Its nothing I can't deal with I just have to move all the stuff out of that room its a bedroom and has all the stuff bedeooms have. I'll have to call mcc or value village to come and get it all because I have no where to store it. Its the perfect room though its got lamanate flooring and a nice big window that faces south so they can have lots of natural light there is a screan on the window so I can even open the window to let the natural light in.I guess thats going to be my project for the next 4 days I'm off work until thursday so its good. If I just had a little more energy lately I might be able to get things done. I think I may need to get myself on a goo vitimin supplement I have no get up and go these days.
