Jayd Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 This week's Amazon is the: Imperial Amazon of Dominica. This is definitely one of the most distinctive Amazons. Their local name is "Sisserou". Their habitat is the Caribbean island of Dominica. They are a large Amazon, 45-50 cm in length, males weigh up to 900 g: females about 650 g. Conservation Status: The current population is about 150-250 birds. Three are in captivity in Dominica's capital city, Rosseau.

Post edited by: Jayd, at: 2010/01/11 20:34

Greywings Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 Hope they were not affected by the destructive Earthquake of yesterday, very sad and difficult time for those on the Island. :(

Jayd Posted January 14, 2010 Author Posted January 14, 2010 Dominica is about 850 mile from Haiti, hopefully no damage. Here's a map site, still checking...Jay http://www.worldatlas.com/webimage/countrys/namerica/caribb/dm.htm

Janfromboone Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 So glad to see this beautiful parrot. We visited Dominica on a scuba diving trip. I wanted so much to see the parrots which live only on the island of Dominica. We couldn't get a group togeather though so we didn't get to go.
Jayd Posted January 15, 2010 Author Posted January 15, 2010 ;)Karma, To bad you couldn't see this rare Amazon... Jay
