MrsBridenstine
So I was snuggling up to Cosmo this afternoon and I noticed he kind of had bad breath. I have never noticed this before and was wondering if any of you have smelled an odor coming from your birds mouth and if this is common. It kind of smelled sour- really hard to explain. Luvparrots
Nope have never noticed a bad breath from my grey or eclectus. I hope all is okay with Cosmo.
JillyBeanz
It depends how bad this smell is - it can be a sign of infection if it is continually bad - I would monitor it and see if it changes (for the better). To mention it you must be slightly concerned - I would check with your vet if you are worried.
Georgiesmum
My Jenday Louie also often has kinda bad breath but i never really thought much of this... danmcq
A sour smell can indicate a crop yeast infection. It is not normal for a bird to have "Bad Breath". The only exception, is if they ate something like a piece of garlic bread, strong herb etc. and you would know instantly what that smell was from. If that sour smell continues, a visit to the vet is in order.
Greywings
It may be a yeast or bacterial infection I would strongly suggest making a visit to your Avain Vet. then let us know how he is doing.
she
I too would say a vet visit is needed to have this checked out.

MrsBridenstine
Cosmo is doing great. I took him to the vet and he said it was just his breath- something he ate. He ran some tests and everything was all good. Thanks everyone for the suggestions.

katana600
Hooray for Cosmo. As time goes on you will recognize an occasional odor from what he has eaten but I am so grateful to you for checking it out and keeping him healthy. The visit to the vet also helps you and the vet to get to know Cosmo better so you will all be good friends and be prepared for anything that comes your way. I am so happy this turned out well for you.

ramsabi
When Rishi has certain kinds of food his breath has a strong odour. I wouldn't call it "bad breath" but the smell is different and strong. I have noticed this particularly when he has steamed corn kernels.
