Hello

Recommended Posts

At the moment I am the proud owner of an unpopulated birdcage. I am looking to fill it with an African Grey named Snidely. I will be getting the bird as soon as a local breeder has one available.

I have a couple of concerns about the bird.

I would like to allow him complete freedom in my apartment and I'd welcome any suggestions about decorating the place to be bird friendly.

Classic first liner - love it!!

Welcome to you (and Snidely)! Harvey has full roam of the house (when we are in) but he is never left alone for more than a minute (because after that I am sure death and destruction would occur)! Like Janet says - there are tons of threads about hazards and dangers - some of which will surprise you - I know they did me!

It's common sense past that though - looking forward to seeing some pictures :)

Welcome Snidely! There is nothing like the experience of a grey. There is a lot to read here and it is the best place to start as you populate the cage, your apartment and your heart with a magnificent gift to yourself. We look forward to walking with you as you learn to create a playland for Snidely. Your life will never be the same. It will be better than you can imagine.

Welcome. I am also the proud owner of an empty cage waiting to be filled. I can't wait for my new bird. Welcome to the forum. I have learned so much just scanning through the various topics and reading what people have to say.

My guess is that you aren't going to want to let your parrot have access without supervision. It is difficult to create a safe place for them that way and still have it be liveable for us. It is very similar to having a toddler around. In fact, it is almost the same as the child proofing I have been doing for when my granddaughter comes over.

Big no no right away - teflon pans. You can read more elsewhere but I just gave all mine to my daughter. Its a nice excuse to treat yourself to some good stainless steel cookware.
