spookyhurst Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 My mom's making me a stain glass piece for the window in my closet (don't ask me why my closet has a window in it ). However, I opted for ultra colorful and asked her to do a scarlet macaw with a blue and gold macaw .
Tari Posted July 25, 2007 Author Posted July 25, 2007 Maybe you can tell me. Does it cost a lot of money to do stain glass? Do you need a lot of room? If you do small stuff well that take up a lot less space? Is it hard? I would love to make some of this stuff but I am real limited on space.
spookyhurst Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 My mom says it is kind of expensive, and you do need a special place to do it because of all the glass chips flying around. She used to belong to a stain glass club and used their facilities, but doesn't anymore. Which I guess is why my stain glass birdies still aren't done . My dad bought her a grinder and everything so she could finish it, but I guess she's been busy with other stuff.
Katt Posted August 2, 2007 Posted August 2, 2007 I would love to know about the art of stained glass. I 'fake it' buy painting glass, in fact I've just done a set of plates with an African Gray in the middle.

Post edited by: Katt, at: 2007/08/01 20:54
judygram Posted August 2, 2007 Posted August 2, 2007 Katt, why don't you post a picture of those plates so we all can see them, I bet they are a beautiful sight.
Connie Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 Not sure stained glass is something you should do around these birds, as I believe lead is used to hold glass. Fumes and residue on hands might be harmful. I may be wrong, forgive me if I am. I was always interested in doing it myself. I have tons of patterns for it.
Talon Posted August 7, 2007 Posted August 7, 2007 Yes, Connie, the fumes would be very toxic to our birds. You really need a separate studio to do that in. But it is very beautiful!
Trina Posted August 7, 2007 Posted August 7, 2007 I have been making mosaics and I find you need much less space and you can still make beautiful images. And no fumes. I have just finished a seahorse with star fish. I collected old bits of roman pottery that I found in Spain to make it. I am planning to do a CAG in the same style, based on a drawing that I have now seen a couple of times. One on the members here uses it, a CAG sitting with one wing up. I better get searching for some nice gray pieces....
