With what do you reward your grey?

Hello,

Phoebe eats almost only pellets. I tried to give her fruits and vegetables but she just like pellets... I want to start training her but I don't know with what can I reward her... At the moment, she let me touch her, and she doesn't bite me ( with strangers is a different story :( ) Although she just come to my hand, if she lands on the floor and needs me to go back to her cage... She doesn't come up if she is on the cage. I think she just trust me a little bit....

Any tips? She is 6 years old.

By the way, how many times do you feed your parrot per day? With what?

Thank you in advance.

I reward my grey with pine nuts or other nuts, walnuts, peanuts, almonds, etc. I always have pellets and dried fruits and vegetables in my grey's cage at all times and feed her fresh fruits like apple, pear, grapes, in the afternoon and occasionally some cheese. In the morning I give her fresh vegetables and pasta and in the evening part of my dinner that is parrot friendly.

You know what I found was useful early on as treats - Cheerios! Harvey used to love them (won't look at them now)!

Harvey always has pellets as Janet describes and fresh veg (favouring broccoli at the moment) - also peas, carrots, spinach etc. Most end up on the floor - it's part of the game! ;)

Thank you for your posts.

Today I tried some new fruits, 90% on the floor or wall. But I think that she ate the others 10%....

Is she suposed to have all time something to eat inside the cage?

Oh they are great interior designers - excellent decorating aids!

Yes, at all times have dried pellets, dried fruits and seeds (non perishables) for her to nibble on - accompanied by fresh water at all times.
