jaylare7
I am three days into owning an African Grey (two years) and he squaks when he see's me. Though has no problem with seeing my son who is 14. I am feeding and caring for him, while the whole time he is yelling. He seems to be showing fear and backs to the oppisite corner of the cage while I tend to his needs. Its been only three days, but I want to make his home confortable for him and me both. I will go out on Monday to buy books on African greys but any insight is appriciated. Luvparrots
Congratulations on your new grey, Jim. What is his name? Perhaps you grey has chosen your son as his favorite. This is not usual. Just be patient and continue to interact with your grey until he becomes more comfortable in his new home. Talking to your new grey is also very helpful to help him relax and become comfortable. There are oodles of threads here at the forum to help you. If you have any questions, just ask! Welcome to the Grey family!
JillyBeanz
Oh three days is a moment in time compared to the rest of your bird's life!! These birds aren't like puppies who will go to anyone who love them - they choose who they want as their best friend. It is a risk that you take when bringing an African Grey into your home - you might not be the one. My husband was the one who prompted a grey - and unfortunately for him (but not for me) I'm Harvey's favourite! Small steps are needed here - talk to him, befriend him - but don't push it! Welcome to the forum - go and tell us more about yourself in the Welcome Room.
