This is probably a silly question but, i have a bearded dragon and i know you have to be cautious and wash your hands because they can carry salmonella, and i know thats a risk with chicken too. Is their any risk with greys??

Grey's can carry, transmit, and die from salmonella. Its important to clean your Grey's cage regularly to reduce this risk. With any animal its usually a good idea to wash your own hands after playing.

yes greys can have a problem with salmonella. It is very important to keep cages very clean.I personally dont allow the birds close when I am preparing or cooking food for both hygiene and safety reasons and have an antibacterial hand wash in the kitchen which I use often.

Post edited by: she, at: 2009/11/28 06:58

No question is silly and yes you do have to be careful with greys and reptiles, you are doing the right thing in being careful to wash your hands thoroughly before handling your grey.

Everyone is cautioned about handling raw meat and the surfaces it touches anymore, be sure to wash with soap and water to eliminate the risk.

Like Judy said, no question is silly. I've asked some doozies in my time! We'd rather you ask a hundred "silly" questions than have something happen to your new grey buddy.
