hey everybody,

iv been toying with the idea of getting a grey for about 2-3 years now. The guy who owns the local petshop has 4 parrots of his own amongost dogs/cats and other birds he keeps at home. The guys really cool and knows his stuff, every now and again he gets a grey in that somebody doesnt want or he gets them from a breeder and hand rears them from young.

At the moment he has a 15 week old grey in which is lovely, its a congo with a nice red tail.. quite a character aswell - it bit me yesterday when i had a hold because some Chav came running into the back of the shop and started shouting all kinds at the bird "ahhh lad is dat ur bird" etc then the owner proceeded to tell the guy no it wasnt for sale, even though it was - which i thought is a great sign he wont just sell to anybody.

can any of you suggest somewhere to buy a cage from at an affordable price? iv seen loads on ebay/different websites and the prices for the same cage can vary massively!!

Hi Nealo, yes that surely is a good sign the guy won't sell to just anyone.

Ebay is a great place to buy a reasonably priced cage, a good idea is to check the name of the cage and compare it with the same cage in a more expensive shop, be sure to ask the seller any questions you need to ask about the cage and ask him/her if the cage is like-for-like and compare prices, take into account postage too - this is sometimes free on Ebay cages. Check feedback for happy customers and away you go.

yeah ebay does seem relatively well prices for cages, some are collection only but the new buys include a price on postage which is usually around £17 for a good sized cage.

I just dont enjoy being ripped off, some places on ebay etc sell the same cage as an internet shop but they are upto £100 cheaper!!

Yes I agree with you and I'm the same. We have had members on here buy cages from Ebay and I've not heard anyone say they had a bad experience. Just make sure you don't rush your purchase, do your homework and you should be ok. You can't beat a good bargain!

Hi Nealo - Welcome to the forum! There is so much choice in cages - you just have to make sure that the one you choose is large enough for your grey (needs to flap and jump around).

Ebay is fine - the cage would just need cleaning vigorously if it is second hand - just to ensure no germs are transferred. It's best to throw away wooden perches etc though.

I'm loving the Stevie Gerrard Chav though - should he not have been training!!!

Good luck in your quest - ask anything on this forum you feel you need to ask - otherwise browse about - there's an abundance of info available. ;)

yeah well the pet shop is at the back of a JJB sports gym and the owner said you always get meatheads coming in going "can i buy this parrot" without even asking any minor details about the bird simple things like age, is it clipped, has it been sex'd etc.

Nealo - that site is sooooo cheap! I'm saving it in my favourites. The prices of the cages are nearly give away - the cage that I have is on there - and was a lot more expensive than advertised!

If you have the money - go for the new cage for those prices!!! ;)
