Conflicting Food Advice

Can anyone clear up for once and for all the debate about sweetcorn and spinach. I read it's good for greys, I read it's bad for greys, I read it's full of iron, I read it blocks absorption of much needed vitamins and minerals.

Harvey loves both - but I am at a loss how often to give him any with all of this conflicting advice - what do you think?

Post edited by: JillyBeanz, at: 2009/11/03 19:53

Spinach is a very dark green veggie and is packed with different vitamins that all different green veggies have. Corn has nothing valuable in it. That goes for any kind of corn. Many parrot mixes are loadeded with kernals of dried corn and many parrots ignore them or flip them out. Can't understand why there's such a debate going on. The trick is to get the bird to eat spinach or kale or any other leafy veggie. Some do, some don't. There's never any suggestion by people to feed corn.

Thanks Dave - I sort of knew the nutritional value in corn was nil (as it is in humans - as ajudged by, well, let's just not go there!!).

I am so pleased about the spinach though - he loves it and would munch on it all day if he could!

Thank you, yet again, for your invaluable advice. Jill xxxx

Corn is sort of a "junk food" for them but they do enjoy it so much just like grapes are a favorite of many birds but it has little to no nutritional value, again another "junk food" item.

Wish Josey liked spinach more, she thinks it is more for just throwing around.:S :silly:
