shamufilth Posted October 26, 2009 Posted October 26, 2009 hi my name is shamun and im from Maldives.. I have an african grey of 9 months old which i named it buddy and i feed it baby food every now n then but it eats by its own now.. Today when i was feeding buddy baby food the plastic like tube attacked to the tip of the syringe got loosen and buddy accidentally swallowed the plastic tube (3.5 inches long)... pls any one help what should i do..im little nervous and afraid if anything might happen to it.. and how could i make it come out or something... PLSSSSS HELPPPPPPP ! ! ! ! !
pearllyn Posted October 26, 2009 Posted October 26, 2009 3 and a half inches?? Are you sure he swallowed it - that must have taken some doing for a young bird!! If you are in no doubt I would think you have to get him to a vet as soon as you can, it sounds a bit serious to me. x
Dave007 Posted October 26, 2009 Posted October 26, 2009 Look around for that syringe tip. A bird would have a hard time swallowing 3 inches of any tubing plus they wouldn't generally find it tasty. OR go to a vet.
shamufilth Posted October 26, 2009 Author Posted October 26, 2009 thanks for the reply.. the tube is like 0.1 cm in diameter..
shamufilth Posted October 26, 2009 Author Posted October 26, 2009 this kind of feeding is called syringe tube feeding..
Char Posted October 26, 2009 Posted October 26, 2009 Tube feeding is used to force feed birds who are not able to eat on their own. Why would you be tube feeding a 9 month old bird?
shamufilth Posted October 27, 2009 Author Posted October 27, 2009 yes but i dont fully insert the tube and i dont force the food into buddys crop.. it was easy for me to put food into buddys mouth through it so i used it... buddy eats on his own now but still i give him baby food now n then..
Guest jamalbirdbiz Posted October 27, 2009 Posted October 27, 2009 here i thought i was the only one.
Guest jamalbirdbiz Posted October 27, 2009 Posted October 27, 2009 lotz of the X i end up eating most of it my self. the birdz dont mind sharing. we have it like that. B)
JillyBeanz Posted October 28, 2009 Posted October 28, 2009 Sharmun I'm with Char - you don't need to tube feed a 9 month old parrot - or indeed give it baby food. All the fresh fruit and veg available in the Maldives and you're giving your baby processed food!! You obviously are still using the tube if you think that Buddy has swallowed it. Let your baby eat on his own
auntphibian Posted October 28, 2009 Posted October 28, 2009 If Buddy indeed swallowed, if, he could just regurg it up. that's usually what happens to stuff that can't be digested. If you are sure he swallowed it, you don't need to take any risks....get him to a vet for an x-ray.
Tycos_mom Posted October 28, 2009 Posted October 28, 2009 The Vet will lnow how to push the tube out without hurting the bird take im in when I thought My bird swallowed a button I took her to the vet she was about 6 months old at the time my vet felt everywhere in the baby crop to see where the button was they know how to get things out without making a hole in the babys crop you have to get it out within 2 to 6 hours before it drops down into the digestive track please hurry and get your bird to the vet.
Guest jamalbirdbiz Posted October 29, 2009 Posted October 29, 2009 ware dido u get the tubes? i have been just handfeeding every nowand then.
