chimaysmommy Posted October 11, 2009 Posted October 11, 2009 I'm going to be making these for dinner for my boyf and I tonight and was wondering if the pork rib bones were safe to give Chimay to chew on. I've heard of others giving their greys chicken/turkey thigh bones but wasn't sure if pork was safe. Thanks guys!
danmcq Posted October 11, 2009 Posted October 11, 2009 As long as they are fully cooked, no problem. However, it should be a rib you have cut the meat away from, not eaten to ensure no human bacteria are on it. :-)
judygram Posted October 11, 2009 Posted October 11, 2009 Dan is right, give them the bones you have cut or stripped the meat off of instead of eaten off although that is the best way eaten. What time is dinner, I love ribs!!!:whistle:

Who knows Chimay may not even know what to do with a rib bone. He still hasn't quite figured out nuts in the shell...I thought he'd love almonds in their shells and he kind of looked at me like "and what, pray tell, would you like me to do with that?" so who knows if he'll figure out that there's yummy marrow in the bones. I'll be sure to post after dinner. It's also my first time making ribs so wish me luck!

chimaysmommy Posted October 12, 2009 Author Posted October 12, 2009 Well the ribs turned out to be FANTASTIC, but Chimay wanted nothing to do with the rib bone we put in front of him. He kind of beaked it but then backed away from it slowly as though he thought it would attack him or something. Haha! He did get a little corn on the cob instead and that ALWAYS makes him happy...We'll have to try the bones again the next time we make ribs or chicken. Thanks for all of the advice guys!
judygram Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 Yeah it might take several tries before he accepts them as they tend to view anything new as evil, out to get them, glad they turned out well, only wished I could have tasted them, oh well out to the store to get my own. :cheer:
