Joolesgreyuk
Hi, I wonder if anyone can enlighten me, I bought some sisal rope (parrot size) to make some toys for my fids, I got it at half price in my local DIY store. I think it's untreated but I'm unsure now. This is what it says on the pack: Biodegradeable Resists sunlight Natural colour & texture Good handling in oily conditions May shrink 12.5% when wet Ideal for bundling & Garden uses. I thought it sounded untreated, it certainly shows no signs of being treated. Could it harm my babies?
judygram
It sounds safe enough but maybe one of our more knowledgeable members will verify that for you, I usually err on the side of caution until I know for sure.
Joolesgreyuk
Thanks Judy, you are always there first with answers to my posts and I thank you for that. I will wait for further comments before going ahead making toys.
chimaysmommy
I would say if in doubt, call the manufacturer if their info is available. If their phone number is unavailable, then Google them. I always go straight to the manufacturer for questions about materials treatment, because most of the time the store's employees aren't always THAT attuned to the content of their products. Not their fault, they're just used to keeping human safety in mind, not birdie safety.
Dave007
Go back to the hardware store and buy Jute rope. It comes in all different thicknesses. It's also used to wind around PVC piping stand extensions. The most important thing is that jute doesn't shred, Sisal does. At Home Depot, it's $2 for 150 ft. Tan in color, comes in a roll. Joolesgreyuk
Thanks Dave & CM for your replies. The Jute rope sounds excellent - and cheap!
JungleDreamz
The Jute is ok from home depot? I have always wondered this...
