Acrylic Bird Cage-UPdated with Pic!

Just wondering about Acrylic Bird Cages.

I have a lorikeet and his poo is like liquid. It's soo hard to keep everything clean. Espically from my floor! I have a blanket around the cage because it's so projectile. But I hate the way the blanket makes my house look.

Anyway...what do you guys think about them?

I thought about buying one for my lorikeet to keep his place cleaner and mine!

I know I need to look at one that have plenty of ventilation. The place I'm looking has climbing bars that hang on the inside...which, my bird loves to climb, so I would get that. And a wire top (more air flow too) because he loves to hang upside down and hang off his toys.

They add (good)perches in them and places for food/water and necture.

here is the website I'm thinking about

http://www.acrylicbirdcages.com/

They work with me and build it custom for me.

I'm just doing research before I actually do something.

Post edited by: Jingles, at: 2009/09/24 19:23

I didnt see your design on the site (didnt ecpect to) but ventilation can be problematic. Also, Lets say your bird "sqiurts" How are you going to be able to get your hand between the bars and the plastic to clean the sides of the cage? One of my firends has several Lories and purrchased plastic mats at staples (the kind you put rolling office chairs on) to go under the cage. You can buy really big ones. They are cheaper than a plastic cage and you can get a floor spot cleaner (like a roomba but with liquid and scrubby brushes) to clean the poo spots.

Hum...yea, ok...that makes a lot of sense!!!

I was very hesitant about it! you guys brought up a lot of good points! I think I'll get the plastic mats (one for the floor and one for the wall (haha - maybe not the wall!) that seems cheaper than what I was thinking!

Thanks guys!

You can also get sheets of plexiglass from Lowe's or Home Depot. It is more expensive but is even easier to clean than the plastic office chair stuff. I mean it is EASY. It also looks better on the foor than the other stuff. Like I said it is a little more expensive but would last forever. It can also be but on the walls and still look good. To attach to wall you would just drill holes and screw into the wall to attach.

Thanks guys!

THose are great tips. We had to go to office max and so I looked...well, I found a covering that looked like hardwood floor. It was a bit expensive... but that's ok, Jax's cage is in the living room...I'll try to post pictures tomorrow of how it all turned out!

I'd like to see that I use plastic mats under my birds cages also but I'm always looking for something better. I think I'm going to try plexi glass for the wall behind my Amazons cage she has always had huge poops and she just shoots them out her rear end onto the wall I swear she save it up and only goes when she absolutly can't hold it any more. she's been like that for the 8 years I've had her I put huge peices of cardboard on the wall behind her cage and just replace that once a week but it would be nice to have something I could wash off on a daily basis. I wipe off the cardboard as much as I can everyday but it doesn't hold up to washing so I think plexy glass would be a great Idea

Nice! I think you'll be really happy with that mat...we have two huge ones for Chimay: One under his main cage and one larger one under his Atom and play-tree. They are a HUGE carpet saver. We live in an apartment now and hardwood floors will be a MUST whenever we purchase a home. Haha! Let us know how the mat works out for you!

These are a great idea - we just have a washproof table cloth under Harvey's playstand - but it's true - such a carpet saver (apart from the fact he can throw pomegranite from there for at least 10 foot!!

I think the idea of perspex etc behind a cage is a great idea too - luckily I was sensible and painted our hall with "washable" paint!!!
