Tycos_mom
I ordered the Aviator harness for Darius and I hope its not going to be to big he weighs about 1000 grams right now. I ordered the exlarge one for him it fits birds from 1000 to 1600 grams the large fits just up to 1000 grams. Do you think I'll have any problems harness training him? He's 5 or 6 years old and I don't know if he has ever had one on. I can touch him any where on his body so that won't be a problem getting him to lift his wings. I'm just a little worried its going to be a total waste of time. I would love to be able to bring him with me when I can but hes to big for a light weight travel cage so if I can't harness train him he's going to be house bound. JillyBeanz
As you know, I harness trained Harvey no problem - and I probably thought this was because he knew no better and he was a baby. Darius now has a new life - a new mum and a new sparkle in his eye - think of the things he's already done - why wouldn't you be able to achieve a simple harness  Why don't you ask Jack (Harmonica Man) if he'll ask Steve Hartman his views and tips - obviously the best person in the world to ask - I'm sure Jack won't mind. katana600
The good news is that the larger birds are supposed to be easier to get into the harness. In the video he was grooming a macaw to wear the harness and taking time and patience is the key. I started practicing on my "little" bird. She is three and pretty sassy, but has let me make a loop and put it over her head. I have been practicing to gently hold up one wing at a time and doing the 1-2-3 count before letting it go. The benefits of harness training will be worth it.
Tycos_mom
I harness trained Adaya at 10 weeks old she was easy but Darius is not a baby and even though him and I have a wonderful relationship I don't want to lose one bit of the trust I have built with him. I've only had him 2 months. Oh yea I almost forgot to mention Darius is exactly 1000gram now as of yesterday afternoon he was actually 1043 but I weighed him late in the day so I figure he's probably around 1000 gr on a empty crop He's gaining weight really well and boy can I tell when he sitting on my arm for any length of time
