Char
Greys like soft wood such as pine. Please do not attempt to trim the beak yourself. The results could be disasterous. Have you tried tug of war games with wood toys to get him interested in chewing? Entice him to climb around the cage. He will use his beak for that. I have had the same kind of problem with my Whisper but she has just recently started chewing more and it is better.
Dave007
Char is right about the soft wood. If you can find some and your bird shows no interest get some coloring that's used for eggs at easter. Soak the wood in the color. your bird may be attracted to it. The coloring is harmless to the bird.
Spinner
One question: Has this always been going on or is it recent? You could rephrase the question to; Has Sparky had this since birth? As others here have said, get some good chew toys - and LOTS of them. Mix up wood, plastic, and especially coconut chews. Find some where you can put food in them, requiring some chewing and foraging to get to them.
