Joolesgreyuk
Aren't they just? Beau is so gentle, he rarely bites in an agressive way, what I mean by that is, take for example I want to get him into his cage and he doesn't want to go in he will step down or turn away, now if I persist he will "bite" in a way to let me know I am pushing my luck but not enough to seriously hurt - just so I know he doesn't wanna play my game. I know there are a few members on here that say their parrots have never bitten them and that is just great and shows what wonderful relationships we can forge with our fids. Aren't we the lucky ones? Although it is obvious Beau loves Steve the most, by no means would I say he is a one person bird. He is still cuddly and luvin' toward me too, I just know my place when Steve walks into the room  but that's ok, I can deal with that, what I couldn't deal with would be to be totally rejected by him. I had one person say to me last week (on finding out I had a parrot) "I don't like birds" whist faking a shudder. I felt sorry for her, she will never know what great relationships you can have with parrots, their intelligence, the way they copy members of the household and understand what some of those words mean. Beau knows exactly what "want your head doing?" means and immediately bows his head in preperation for a scratch, he is amazing. Sorry for going on a bit, just thought I'd share my thoughts with you guys because I know you understand how it is. I may now have Argyle but Beau will always be special as he was my first parrot and he knows he is number 1 - not sure Argyle agrees with this though
judygram
I am one of those members who has a grey that has never bitten me, she is a sweetheart and she has other ways of telling me she doesn't like something. So far she has never refused to go back inside her cage when I have attempted to put her there, for one thing I have never given her the chance to refuse. I do count myself very lucky to have a grey that does not feel she has to resort to biting me to let me know what she wants or doesn't want but I also know that could end at any time but I'm hoping for the best while prepared for the worst. JillyBeanz
I agree - he is so special - but he still likes to dig his beak in now and then! I haven't been blessed with a parrot that doesn't bite! I say "bite" - it's only once in a while that he does dig in when I could scream - but I don't! Harvey's not liking Michael at all at the moment - he'll sit on him, but if he tries to touch him it's all hackles and beak! Funnily though - Michael often gets in before me and has no problem getting him onto his hand and out of his cage! The bird knows what he's doing!!! glitterysparkle
Why yes they are! I've had mine less than a week and I'm totally in love:) I feel sorry for people who have that kind of "I don't like" attitude...Karma to you for tolerating that remark:) Sometimes I would hear things like that about my dog(husky) and wonder why those people felt the need to share that...it's not like they live with you! I have yet to see if there will be a favorite person between my husband Brian and myself- Sephora adores him so I suspect he'll be a favorite...but right now I'm home with her all day so we have time to bond. Either way it's good because she, like Beau, doesn't ignore anyone. THAT was my fear. ~Robin

Judy, very interesting to hear you say this. As well, as having Alfie, and our dogs, megan and tia, I also have 3 horses. I think quite highly of a man named Monty Roberts. He is a great believer in not forcing horses to do anything, but somehow, getting them to do things for you because they WANT to do things for you! For instance, with a horse that is diffocult to load, training him in an environment where it is hard for him to do anything else, ie, making it EASY for him to succeed and diffocult to fail. I imagine the same principles could be used for parrot training - I don't know why I didn't think of it until I just read your post! It is true, all our babies, and not just our parrots (i think alot of people on here are multi animal people!) are very special - no-one in the world has a horse as handsome as my Gavin!! But it is so great to hear people loving their animals, despite their flaws! I was in Morrisons today after having my therapy (Pets as Therapy) dogs out on their weekly rounds, and a man who was serving on the chicken counter noticed my t- shirt and said " is this therapy for your pets?" I laughed and said no, but they will share it! He went on to say that, yes they can be therapy, but mostly they are just annoying! I said, oh, mine aren't, grabbed my chicken and ran! It's just so great to hear from people who are truly into their pets. Long may it continue! xx
Luvparrots
I haven't thought about Ana Grey biting me in a long time. So when I saw this thread I thought about it and it has been a while. I guess we too have learned to read each other and her biting or nibbling, she never really BITE me, doesn't happen at all. Ana Grey is my baby forever. Great thread!! Janfromboone
joulesgreyuk - I know what you mean about loving your grey. Sometimes I just am filled with joy over Tobie and just the way he is. He is such a unique individual and his speech and personality make me so thankful to have him as a part of my life. Pearllyn - You said alot about how therapeutic our animals are. I'm not sure what you ment by taking your therapy, but I'll tell you about my last day off. I had discovered a new trail near one of the lakes in Boone. I put Tobie in his harness and took two of my dogs on their leashes and drove out to the lake. Before long I was surrounded by what felt like a wilderness and found myself on a beautiful mountain trail. I let the dogs off the leashes and Tobie was twittering with the wild birs and swishing his tail. The dogs sniffing every little wild animal odor and I was in seventh heaven to be surrounded by the beauty of it all. My joy was amplified by sharing it with my animals. HeatherStrella
I sooo agree! I never ever loved an animal the way I love AnnaBella. She means everything to me. I've had dreams, horrible dreams, about her dying in terrible ways and it scares the crap out of me everytime. I have a dog...and I adore her..I've had cats and one in particular was very, very special to me...but there's no relationship that comes close to the relationship I have with AnnaBella. There are times where she finishes my sentences or says a word/phrase I'm about to say. She blesses me when I sneeze and says "mmhmm" when I thank her...lol. There are so many ways that we're connected...like all of you are to yours. As I say in my signature...She's my little GREY of sunshine!! Great topic...thanks for posting it. Char
Funny this thread should come up tonight. I was just thinking earlier about how special my little bundle of feathers is to me. I love the way she will sit on my shoulder and bend her head down and I can bury my face in her feathers and snuggle her. Lately she seems to want me to kiss her on the back of the neck. When she looks at me there is just something in her eyes, I don't know how to describe it, an understanding and intelligence I have never experienced with another animal, she is truly special. pearllyn
Sorry Jan, My dogs are members of an organisation called Pets As Therapy, every week I take them round a nursing home and let the residents stroke/cuddle them. The man in the Supermarket noticed the P.A.T. logo on my t-shirt and saw me buying a chicken and asked if the chicken was therapy for the pets! x
Jane08
Totally agree they are special. I had a moment with our 2 this morning. Rangi was perched on the back of my seat asking me for kisses which he got, while Kea was perched on my hand gazing out the window. She would then turn her head and look at me and I had tears in my eyes thinking how precious they are and how much I love them and what a responsibility that is. I am responsible for their happiness, caring for them, teaching them, feeding them, loving them, activating them, playing with them, keeping them safe whilst giving them freedom, their health and this is for the rest of my life. Can't get any bigger than that.
JillyBeanz
Thanks for your comments about my photos Julie - they're taken on my phone!! Therefore, I will have to confess that I'm no David Bailey!!! Harvey's not special this morning - he tried to chew the little button that you press to make a spark on the gass hob (how technical am I!!) - that goes then so does my tea!!! PS: I must add the hob was not switched on at the time and this was 06.00am this morning!!!
