Journeyman Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 Hi all, Long time no post. Cosmo(my CAG)is doing fine, however, I have a question about my Yellow-sided Conure. Around his head and on the back of his head, he's grown some short spikey "bone" like protrutions through his feathers. They look kind of wierd, so I was wondering if anyone out there might know if this is normal, or should I be concerned.
danmcq Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 Those sound like pin feathers that your Conure can not preen. If it will allow you, you can remove the sheeth surrounding the feather inside.
pearllyn Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 Hi Journeyman, Alfie has loads of them coming through and they feel awful! She won't allow me to remove the sheath, as Dan has suggested, but she does love it when I just sit and sort through them - you like you see the monkeys doing?
Journeyman Posted September 10, 2009 Author Posted September 10, 2009 Thanks for the info. So, there's nothing to be concerned about?
Luvparrots Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 I bumped into one of those pin feathers yesterday while giving Ana Grey scratches. Probably why she has been wanting so many head scratches lately.
