Mitchjr
Ziggy has been with us for one now. He comes out of the cage when the door is opened. Most of the times he will go back in when we come near him. Sometimes he will come on our hand. If I reach in the cage, he climbs away and may try to bite. What I don't get is when he is out and on our hand, he will go to anyone. He will climb on our shoulder allow us to pet him scratch his head and neck. He is super friendly to everyone. He never bites when out of the cage. I know one week in a new home is not long, but is there anything we can do to have him get on our hand while in the cage. I will start doing some training soon, but I wanted him to make the new home adjustment first. He seems really comfortable here when out of the cage. Dave007
""""""If I reach in the cage, he climbs away and may try to bite. """""""" Very common in african greys. Many do that because when they're in their cage they fell like they're in their private protective area which is called cage aka his home.Everything else you say about your bird sounds superb and you shoulsn't worry about what he is doing concerning his cage. He may remain like that for the rest of his life or he may stop doing that in a few months after getting used to your hand going in and out. JillyBeanz
Harvey will let me reach in for him - but brush against one of his hanging toys and boy is this a different matter! It's like a huge giant coming to our homes, lifting the roof off and lifting us out of our bed I suppose - we wouldn't be happy! Sounds like you're having a super first week - I know we all want things instantaneously - but unfortunately it doesn't happen! Keep up the good work! judygram
I hate to be the bad guy here but I can't just let this go by without a comment, in your picture of Ziggy he is outside without a harness on and not in a cage, your bird can and will fly away if spooked, even if he is clipped, I would never take my bird outside unless he is in a carrier or on a harness, please for his own safety. Thanks for sharing a picture of Ziggy, he is enjoying being outside and he looks very handsome.
