Lost Grey in Tampa, FL

Recommended Posts

Domingo was last seen on USF's Tampa Campus, his wings had been clipped the day before by the vet, but she only removed four feathers and I guess it wasn't enough. Someone unfamiliar tried to pick him up and he flew, started to come back but then was chased by a seagull and flew away screaming. :[

If anyone's in the area and has him or has seen him, please let us know. henryandfriends5@yahoo.com

Domingo should have never been outside without being on a harness with a leash or in a travel carrier, this is what happens.

I hope you find him but please look thru several of the threads in the rescue room for ideas and suggestions on how best to recover a lost bird, we have had other birds found by doing all you can to find him, good luck to you.

If you do find him please come back and let us know so we don't continue to worry about him.

Thank you, this forum has a lot of helpful advice.

The only reason he was outside without a harness on (and he was in his travel carrier the majority of the time) was because his wings had been clipped by the vet the day before, who we explicitly told we wanted to be able to take him outside. She thought that more than four feathers would be too much because "greys are built like little rocks". The good luck wishes are appreciated but please know that we would never take a flighted bird outside without taking severe precautions. We were told he would be able to do no more than 'flutter to the ground', and indoors it seemed that WAS all he could do, but that was clearly not the case. :[

You underestimate the ability of their taking flight even though they are clipped for they can gain height with the breezes they encounter outside and not available inside. Many birds have flown away when their owners thought that because they were clipped they were not capable of flight but they can go far with the aid of the wind.

Ok, sermon is over, I just wanted you to be aware that clipped birds especially only clipping 4 feathers that the bird can gain height and fly away if outside.
