Raiderbabe
Hey everyone! I bought fresh lima beans at a farmer's market today. They are still in the shell/pod. How do I prepare them for Malibu to eat? Thanks!
Tycos_mom
I believe lina beans have to be cooked or steamed first I cook them for my birds just to be on the safe side they love them

Raiderbabe
THanks for all the responses! Do you shell them first and just boil the beans? Or do you boil them in the shell and let the bird pick them out?
lovethatgrey
Either way is fine.
judygram
Gosh I hadn't thought of offering them in the shell but then we didn't have any in the garden this year but I love lima beans but that might be a great way to offer them, give them the chance of working a little bit to get to them. chimaysmommy
I recently posted a recipie in the Bird Food room for a quick, freezable mix I made for Chimay by roasting frozen edamame and corn. Not how similar lima beans and edamame are when cooking but give it a look-see!! Chimay absolutely adores it...It's super easy. It's modified from a people-recipie I'd found on the food network's website, just eliminated the garlic/salt/tomato and altered the oil used (changed from olive oil to RPO)

Post edited by: chimaysmommy, at: 2009/08/31 18:
