Baby beaky, new family member

Recommended Posts

hello all!

my name is marshal and i recently got an african grey. She was DNA tested and is a girl, hatched on may 1st 2009. i have had her since aug 2nd. she has been to vet a few times for regulars. anyways i just wanted to get some guidelines on how greys are around that age. i have looked over the forums and most members have older greys. if someone could tell me how a normal grey should be around that age and what she should be eating , me and baby would appreciate that!

she eats apples cucumbers and green peppers for breakfast, pebbles through out the day and peas, cauliflower and broccoli for dinner. of course it changes usually but that's her favorite.

also, how long should i keep her in her cage?? i take her out in the morning for "potty time" (working on training as we speak) , she does some stretches and i put her back in. then she gets out when i get back from work/school around 3-5 pm. she stays in and out from that time till bed time which is usually around 9 or 10.

Hi Marshal and welcome to the forum.

Your baby sure is cute. It seems you have a good diet going for babybeaky (love the beaky name ;-)) already but keep it as varied as possible. Please don't allow her to put her beak into your mouth as they can pick up all types of bacteria from a human's mouth. Give her as much out-of-cage time as your lifestyle allows.

You will find all the information you need right here on this forum. I think you will like it on here as the natives are friendly

Keep us updated on beaky won't you?

Hello Marshal and welcome to our family, we are so glad you could finally introduce yourself and we look forward to hearing more about you and Baby Beaky.

I will have to scold you for allowing her to go inside your mouth, that is a very dangerous habit that you should stop now, the bacteria we have naturally in our mouths could make her very sick or kill her.

Thats great that you have had her to the vet for a well check, it will help if and when she has any issues that come up in the future and most of us do take our greys in for a yearly checkup to stay on the safe side.

You will find lots of useful information in our many threads so do read thru them at your leisure and do ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. You will also find lots of info about what to feed your grey in the bird food room and the nursery room.

Thanks for sharing the video with us but it is an unsafe practice and feel free to add any pictures of Baby Beaky to your posts of you like, we love pictures.
