Tricky Posted July 15, 2007 Posted July 15, 2007 I've always used newspaper to line the bottom of Jack's cage, but I've read on a few sites that some people recommend using sand or wood shavings. What does everyone here use?
judygram Posted July 15, 2007 Posted July 15, 2007 Stick with the newspaper, its cheap especially if you already get the paper like I do.
Tricky Posted July 15, 2007 Author Posted July 15, 2007 Good point. I guess I will. Sand could also be terribly messy.
Talon Posted July 15, 2007 Posted July 15, 2007 Tricky, Welcome to the Family here. Newspaper is the cheapest and easiest to clean up. Looking forward to hearing more about Jack.
Guest Lidia Posted July 15, 2007 Posted July 15, 2007 Newspaper is fine, but stick to black and white, because they can chew it sometimes and the chemicals in coloured paper are toxic. B)
RdnkParamedic21 Posted July 15, 2007 Posted July 15, 2007 Yes Lidia is right, I was told that by a vet a few years back. However, I was told it was all newspaper ink, colored or b&w, would become toxic when wet. My birds got papertowels on the cage floor after hearing that.
judygram Posted July 15, 2007 Posted July 15, 2007 Well I have a grate that separates the bottom of the cage from her area so she cannot get to the paper anyway, so if that is the case it is safe to use for cage lining.

Me too! If Joshua needs something to shred, I give him bad novels.
Tricky Posted July 15, 2007 Author Posted July 15, 2007 Thanks everyone. ^^ Yes, Jack has the grate that separates the bottom pan from the rest of the cage.
Talon Posted July 15, 2007 Posted July 15, 2007 Lidia, That is a good reminder to us all about the colored ink! Thank you! Karma for you!!
