jessdecutie18
What are some beginner training ideas for me and Yoshi to try? He is just finishing hand feeding and there aren't a lot of foods I can tell he just loves, but he does pick all the sunflower seeds out of his food before anything else, so yesterday I sat down with him for almost 15 minutes, showed him the sunflower seed, said "Do you want one? Step up!" and tried teaching him that he can be rewarded for doing something simple. For the first 5 minutes he ducked around my hand and was determined to find the hidden sunflower feed, ignoring the step up command. Then it clicked, and he realized quick that all he had to do is step up, hear me say 'Good Job!' and the hidden seed would magically re-appear! I got him stepping as far as he could (wings are clipped so he can't fly just yet, although he keeps attempting to lol). Now what should I try without getting too complicated for him, cause he's still young
JillyBeanz
The most important lesson has been learned! This is the command you will use day in day out, hour in hour out, minute in minute out! It's constant! What about shaking hands - this is simple - ask to "shake hands" and lift his foot up and say "pleased to meet you" - He'll learn to lift on his own in no time. Also - as him to give you a kiss - watch for that beak tho - your lips and cheeks are lovely and fleshy!
Luvparrots
Jess, Yoshi certainly is a quick study grey. Congratulations and good luck with your future training!!!
