JillyBeanz
Nope - not the start of a rude joke  For months now we have been using "Monkey Nuts" to give Harvey for a treat - and I've just read a post Judy has answered in the Welcome Room (but unfortunately she's gone offline) about the shells and fungus. Can someone please confirm that the ones I am giving him are okay for him. I buy the ones that are meant for human consumption - can these also harbor this deadly fungus? I've got a ton of parrot mix too with monkey nuts in - I'm off to the kitchen to pick them out too if someone can confirm this for me. Waiting in anticipation......!

Post edited by: JillyBeanz, at: 2009/08/20 20:
judygram
I'm here now Jill, I have included a thread that this very subject was discussed and this is what I base my decision on not to feed peanuts in the shell, you make your own conclusion. http://www.greyforums.net/forums/bird-food/23193-peanuts-in-the-shell.html#35346
JillyBeanz
Thanks Judy - I can't believe I've put Harvey at such risk. We've been so careful about absolutely everything, so I'm so ashamed I've given him these (and regularly - they're even bought in his seed mix). I knew about aspergillosis and other fungal based respiratory diseases, and had been told by a knowledgeable chap at the pet store we use about making sure that we used human grade nuts for Harvey (we were talking peanuts - and he obviously warned us away from wild bird nuts etc). I've just shown my husband and the kids your invaluable link and it's agreed that he doesn't get any more. I wish I could give you 50 karmas for this - you don't know what it means (well, actually, I know you do!), so only one karma coming your way. Thank you so much Judy, I rely on you and all of the guys for the in depth knowledge and experience. Jill x
judygram
Thats what we are here for, to help each other and I do occasionally buy parrot mix that has peanuts in the shell and I throw them out for the wild birds, I am taking no chances.
