MsGardeness
I've had my CAG for 3 weeks now and he's going great - I couldn't ask for better. I thought I would introduce stick-training to him, just in case I need it someday (ie if I can't reach him with my hand or if he decides to get nippy). Anyway last night I got him to step-up to a stick 3 times but each time he flew off. He is clipped and therefore he ended up flying into a window about 6' away and then crashed to the floor - POOR guy! I felt so bad for him and obviously we stopped after that. He even got a mark/nick on his nere. I cuddled him and offered him an almond and nutriberry but he doesn't care for them (or just doesn't know what to do with them) as he kept dropping them. How do I get him to stay on the perch or stick instead of flying or jumping off right away? When he steps up to my fingers (which he does fairly well) - I can hold him on there with my other fingers and even let him flap his wings when he wants to. MsGardeness
I just read another posting about stick training and see I should start on the floor with Toebie and introduce the stick slowly. Hope he will get the idea to stay on the stick eventually... I'll give it another go over the weekend.
judygram
Yeah you can't expect results the first time you try it, you know how cautious they are by nature, keep working with it for short periods of time and soon he will get the hang of it, its still too new to him yet.
