Why is it so urgent that your bird speak fluently? Is it a matter of life and death? You make it sound like the world will end for you if your bird doesn't talk. I am assuming you have a grey and it doesn't talk yet, well I hate to disappoint you but not all greys will talk, most do but a few do not and you cannot make them talk, they do it of their own accord when they feel like it.

I hate to say it but I will, if you got your bird only because of it's talking ability then you bought it for the wrong reason, there is so much more to a bird than speech, in fact the talking ability is just the icing on the cake.

Why don't you really read what you just wrote and think about it for a few minutes and see how you come across to other bird lovers here on this forum for your statement offends me.

The best way to teach your bird is to label everything like you would with a you child when you give him a nut say would you like nut,or what ever it happens to be.Just Think of the bird as your child and your teaching him to talk same thing exactly. Most birds do talk some only say a couple of things some won't ever talk. The best way for a bird to learn is either from another bird or through association

Lucky, unfortunately there is no way to make your bird speak fluently as soon as possible. Since you posted in the Other Birds Room I assume that the bird you have is not an African Grey. A parrot will speak in its own good time if it going to speak at all. First the bird must feel comfortable and loved. Why don't you tell us a little more about your parrot.

Lucky, I have a young (18 months) CAG and a 9 year old Umbrella Cockatoo, while the Grey talks quite a bit I don't know what you mean by fluently. It can take them years to say their first word if ever and then true work and dedication on the parront to help them (if they ever do) to recognize and comprehend items or use them cognitively. Dixie is very good at it and I'm extremely lucky, but it's taken constant conversation with her, just like you would with a child.

The U2 on the other hand, says three things - hello, i love you and be right back. He's not had the constant conversation since I've only had him 6 weeks, but his abilities are not the same as Dixie's.

I wouldn't expect any other grey to be compared with another bird of the same species. They are unique individuals and must be treated as such.
