tracie
Our baby TAG has been home a week now. He is 9 weeks old. He is perching, climbing, eating pellets, and millet. However he isnt hand feeding very well. I was about to type that I know they slow down for flying, but that I thought he was too young. Well guess what, he just flew. He wants to be on my computer desk and I have returned him to his cage 3 times and he keeps flying back to my desk. {Feel-good-0002006E} So I guess I shouldn't worry about the eating too much. It's like having a new human baby. I worry about everything.
JillyBeanz
There's nothing wrong with worrying Tracie - you'll do it day in, day out! My worry at the minute is that Harvey is about to crash to the ground with a loud thump as he is now hanging upside down from the outside of his cage, whilst trying to bite a toy that is inside the cage! The stupid thing is - the top of the cage opens to a playstand, so the silly bird could climb in if he wanted! Perhaps he's telling you that he doesn't want you hand feeding him anymore - try putting it in a bowl - see what he does!
she
He is fledging, and as you know they become more interested in flight at that time than food.I would still offer the hand feeding,he is very young still and ensure he has lots of fresh veg and fruit to sample. Also as Jill said we all worry ALL THE TIME.

Post edited by: she, at: 2009/08/15 21:
Tycos_mom
How many times a day do you hand feed him. If he is on 3 a day he may be getting ready to cut him to 2 a day is his crop emptying well between feedings? If he's on 2 feedings he may be getting ready to cut down to 1 a day. Just make sure he has lots of variaty of different types of foods in his cage and watch him to see how much he's eating. Do you have a scale. he should be weighed every morning before breakfast and after his big poop. during fledging they can lose up to 10% of his weight but you should still moniter and chart his weight to make sure it start to level out and stay consistant during and after he is weaned. Sory for rambling I get carried away sometimes.
tracie
He is in 3 feeding but I am cutting him back to 2. He has lots of food available to him and he picks at it all day. His crop has been emptying nicely. As for a scale, I was planning on picking one up today. So I will start weighing him tomorrow morning. Thanks for the advice.
