There is an soon-to-open site dedicated to lost birds in the UK which I have registered with. Basically it is to get as many people as possible covering every corner of the UK to register and keep a look-out for lost birds so that eventually there will be no area uncovered and that anyone losing a much-loved pet will rest assured what someone is looking out for their lost fid. Here is the site:

What a great idea. I know that if someone in my area had a lost bird I would go help look for it and do anything I could to help.

Karma to you for posting this link.

That is an excellent idea Julie, someone is always losing a bird and to have a network where as many people as possible are looking for it the greater chances of it being found. This will be a big help for those members who live in the UK.

Judy, I have just checked and it it actually going to be global which is great because everyone worldwide will benefit from this. I assumed it was UK only because I found the link on a UK site.

Wow that is great Julie, world wide, now that is something else and I am so glad it will benefit anyone anywhere, I will check out the link but thanks so much for sharing it with us, karma for you girl.

I've registered Julie - thanks for this. What a fab, fab idea - even better if it's global. I've realised that there are so many people from all over the world registered on this forum - it's so amazing.

I just hope I personally never need to use them.

I have registered,Its a fantastic idea.I know if one of my birds got loose I would want as many people in the area to know.Never say never.

Thank you for taking interest in parrotalert.com.

The site will initially go live in the UK, followed

almost stright away by the US, then seeing how that

goes, the rest of the world (map technology permitting).

The site will be using geographical mapping technology,

in order to pin-point a lost bird and identify nearest eyes for the sky (watch agents).

Being a bird owner myself, i've noticed the lack of a

real definitive site to handle this.

It's under development at the moment.

If you register your interest, you'll be notified

when it goes live.

Would it be possible for you to add parrotalert.com

to your links page under lost and found section?

In exchange i'll add a links page to support those

supporting parrotalert.com

I am trying to figure out what good it does for you to have our email address. Just giving out that does not tell you where we are located or register us in anyway but lists of emails could be sold to spammmers. You see where I am coming from? I am waiting until you go live and your site is more than just asking for emails. Be sure to let us know when it happens.

Post edited by: Char, at: 2009/10/17 17:35

I understand your concern.

While this project is in development, parrotalert

has the chance to build up a healthy support network.

It would be pointless turning the site on, then

for people to start reporting lost/stolen parrots

then to discover the site has no members to help

with their plight.

We have no intention to sell the list of addresses,

the chances are, if you are already getting spam,

then your address is already being sold as part of

a global list.

In Summary, the sign up process (already completed

in development), asks for you least amount of information

required to be effective.

* username and password for logging in.

* email address for alert notifications.

* a geographical point of reference, in other words

the nearest point to where you reside on a map.

It doesn't have to be your house, postcode, nearest

street, even town. The information will never be

disclosed to any other member.

Reporting lost and stolen parrots has already been completed,

similar process as above, but providing more relevant

information with regards to the parrot reported.

Then, if you are within the radius of n miles, you'll

receive an e-mail notification once a missing parrot

is reported.

There are more features, searching lost/found and stolen,

reporting found parrots, etc.

Also, were are looking at pushing alerts out to forums

lost and found pages directly and social networking

sites like twitter: http://twitter.com/parrotalert

We will be going live with UK, Ireland, USA, Canada,

New Zealand and Australia initially, then we'll take

it from there.

We are hopping by the end of Q1 2010.

I hope this clarifies this more for you.

parrotalert.

Thank you for the clarification. It sounds like a wonderful endeavor and hopefully will result in parrots being found and reunited with their owners.

I don't currently get very much spam. Probably because I am cautious.;)

Post edited by: Char, at: 2009/10/28 04:04
