Plink
I currently use a homemade mash for our parrotlet's diet, supplementing with a little seed and lots of vegetables. The mash is a 2 to 1 ratio of grains to beans. For the grains I use some combo of wild rice, brown rice, buckwheat, amaranth, quinoa, wheat berries. For the beans I use mung, aduki, garbanzo and lentils. I combine the dry ratio and soak overnight, cooking it fully the next morning. I use a small scoop and make mounds on a cookie sheet, putting it into the freezer for a few hours so I can transfer to freezer bags. This lasts a few weeks and has worked out well. I also will sometimes sprout small amounts of the bean mixture and serve with the other foods. She often shares our morning oatmeal as well. Could I use this basic mash also with my AG? Larger amounts than I'm currently serving I'm sure...though our little parrotlet does herself proud in the eating dept... I would have to include nuts as I don't do that now, and also eggs look to be good. Anything else to be suggested? Our baby is supposed to come home weaned onto Goldenfeast (I haven't looked into that yet) and I can use that to gradually transition to these other foods. I also happily found some unrefined red palm oil at the health food store yesterday.
