Gorndt
Hi all, I'm thinking about making a ladder from the cage down to the floor for my little Leto, since he's not comfortable with me picking him up yet but he does seem to want to get down on the ground and wander around. Is this a bad idea?
judygram
No it is a good idea but you have to be watchful of when he is down on the floor so he doesn't get into something that could hurt or kill him. This is especially nice for those who have greys who are either clipped or otherwise don't fly to give them a way to get to the floor though some don't like being down on the floor. Be sure he doesn't get to any electrical cords while down there and of course if there are any dogs and cats around they may have to be shut up in another room for his safety. Eckobird
I think its a good idea too! Like Judy said just be careful to watch him on the ground. I hope to see some pictures of your finished product.
Luvparrots
Both of my fids were chipped when I got them. I have ladders and hanging knotted ropes and things hanging on their cages and on the hanging perches and boings all over the house. Frankly they use them to get up not down. They just glide down from their cages or boings and travel where they want. I have all wood floors and for some reason my fids do not go near my outlets or cords (most are behind furniture. I live alone so I am able to keep an eye on them as the only distraction I have is the Forum!
Gorndt
Yeah, my place is pretty small, and I work from home most days so I think it'd be nice for him to be able to get out and about. He's only tried to glide once. I'm definitely going to let his wings grow back, it seems so cruel and unnatural for him to have to walk everywhere. judygram
They weren't given wings in the first place to just have them cut off, they were meant to fly but if they can't fly then they have to walk and a ladder would provide him a way to get from point A to point B. Luvparrots
Yeap!!!! If they can't fly they need to get around!!! I can't wait until my fids can fly!!!
rbpittman
I have ladders around Dixie's cage since she's not flighted. She uses them to wander around the room, get from her cage to her swing, over to her playstand, etc. We love our ladders.
