Luvparrots
Have you tried birdie muffins? I think there is a recipe or two in the recipe thread of this Bird Room forum. I also give my fids Cheerios mixed in with their fruit in the morning or pieces of toasted wheat/raisin toast.

chimaysmommy
Here's what I'd posted in the Simple Grey Recipies/Cookbook room. They're pancakes using a modified version of the recipie on the back of a box of HungryJack pancake mix. This has been a HUGE hit with Chimay. HungryGrey Pancakes (yeah I know, the name needs work) Following/altering the recipie on the box of HungryJack pancakes. I only have one birdie so I went by the instructions for smallest increment, which was 8-10 pancakes. -1 cup pancake mix as the box directs -1 egg, crumbled and washed shell included -Substituted the 2 tbsp. of cooking oil with 2 tbsp of red palm oil -Substituted 1/3 of the 2/3 cups of milk in the directions with organic applejuice -3 large strawberries, diced fine -3 blackberries, smashed (the berries that I have are from my mom's local farmer's market, and they're HUGE) -About 6 snow pea pods diced fine(I lost count...was watching TV while I made this. Ha ha) -A small handful of flax seed -"Powdered" almonds...ha ha. I run almonds through a coffee grinder that I have to grind spices and it comes out as a fine powder that I usually sprinkle on his dinner -Make like regular pancakes. I used a soup spoon for dishing out the batter for teeny birdie cakes. I'm sure you can modify the fruit/veggie content to whatever your birdie likes or what you have around the house

Post edited by: chimaysmommy, at: 2009/08/04 22:
chimaysmommy
Oh I'd forgot to mention....on days where I don't have to work and can afford the time to clean up after him, I smash about 5 slices of banana up with a small dollup of peanut butter along with flax seed. Then I put it on a plate and watch his face get messier and messier. Ha ha! It's particularly fun to fling as well
