heya,

Even though we aren't parronts quite yet, I thought I'd share some toys. Most aren't done yet so I wont bother with those that are just idea's. Not the greatest pictures but they give an idea.

The only one done. Roughly 50 cm

Two close ups.

Swing to-be.

Far from done, but LOVE the colours. Strange angle on it but roughly 1.20. (braided from 18 meters of sisal)

Small foraging toys, also great as cat distraction toys

Two not finished ones, but liked by the cat...

..perhaps a little too much!

Mostly I use sisal, as you can see. I drown in that stuff due to someone taking home 500 meters, other then that I got hemp, wooden beads and some baby acryl. Left over java tree bits, and some other woods.

I've heard many things about cotton robe, and not quite sure whether or not too use it. Anyone any insight on that?

Those are some very nice looking toys Diana and your new grey should love them, maybe more than the cat does, cat is just curious and that is what gets them into trouble sometimes.

About the cotton it is ok to use but you have to be vigilant about clipping the frayed ends as it can cause a grey's foot to become entangled and then an injury occurs or even resulting in death so just be careful with it.

Thanks for sharing some pictures of your new toys with us, you are very creative, gives us older people some ideas.

that is really cute but I see too may loose holes and threads that a foot could get tangled in. I would only use that toy when you are supervising him. I make a lot of toys too but I am always looking at it and asking myself. "Is that string long enough that he could get tangled in it? Are the knots loose enough that a foot could get tangled in it?" You have to be really careful with both the toys you buy and the toys you make.

Also be careful about letting the cat play with the same toys because bacteria from the cats mouth could make your bird sick.<br><br>Post edited by: Char, at: 2009/08/02 00:18

thx for the replies,

Char, thank you. Will just have to start over again then or simply discard them since I cant do it tighter then this.

I know about the cat, no worries. He got that ball and I just replaced it. got more then plenty of those :) but thank you for the warning.

I just gave you Karma for taking the advice so gracefully. It is the one with the long strings that I am worried about.

I sometimes buy large parrot toys and then use the parts and rope from it to make several smaller ones. The heavy rope on some of the larger toys is good.

Later on today when I am finished cleaning I will take a pic with instructions for making Whisper's FAVORITE foraging toy. Guaranteed you bird will love it!
