Feeding 4 Week old African Grey

My 4 week old african grey baby makes a kind of hiccup sound when I hand feed it. it just makes this noise sometimes but then starts calling out in its normal voice again. it also keeps on calling and calling even after I feed him. his crop is definitely full after everytime i feed him and i am feeding him the recommended amount by the breeder. and also do they need to be entertained at all at this age? I mean do I have to take him out of the cage or play with him or give him toys? because this is my first african grey and im not sure.

He does not need to be entertained but he should be handled some, most greys love to cuddle and if he is by himself by all means provide some kind of soft stuffed animal to be "company" for him.

Please take a read thru the threads in the nursery room, we have some that deal with handfeeding baby greys and you might find some useful information there and we do have some members here with experience and maybe some of them will be along soon to help you.

Have you ever handfed any other birds before?

Hi and congradulations on your baby grey!! How exciting. Judy gave some great advice especially about checking through the threads in the Nursery room for baby greys. You would probably get a much bigger response too cuz everyone loves to talk and help out others with baby greys.

Please introduce yourself in the Welcome room too and tell us a little about you and your baby grey...It's name, how long have you had it, etc. Good having you here!

I had a baby grey last year who keeps calling even after beeing fed. I found out that if i wrap her in a towel and put her on my lap she stopps calling and sleeps like a baby, so your baby needs a loving parent. Try that out, in a ddition to a small soft toy like a teady bear will deffinitly keep him company when u r not there. Also make sure he stays warm enough, perhaps a small towel next to him wll also giive him some warmth. Keep talking to him when u can, even your voice will give him some security, and he will get used to vocal communication.

Best of luck and Karma to you
