JJsHoney
I am starting to get concerned, after a few people telling me how small the baby is I started looking around finding many pictures of "10 weeks old greys" and mine looks NOTHING like that, more so I think it looks more like 8 weeks, but how could they be wrong? they told me he was hatched on May 16th so you do the math I also have pictures dated June 1st and up until now everything was looking ok or so i thought so I am going to give you a time line, and see what you guys think you all have been so much help before!! Thanks so much 2 weeks 3weeks 5weeks 6weeks 8 weeks 10 weeks This a link that has good pictures and they did it week by week the pics are interesting http://www.babygreys.co.uk/12-weeks.htm
Joolesgreyuk
Hi JJJsHoney, I think you are right to question the age although I would imagine each bird would vary in size/developement as do humans of course. I would put yours at somewhere between 8 and 10 weeks. Is the breeder reputable? If so there is no reason he/she would lie about the age of the bird, neither would a breeder worth his salt allow a bird to go to the owner before it's ready. Incidently I went into the shop I bought my grey from and they had two greys in there aged 12 weeks - both were bigger in size than my grey who is now 6 months old. The shop is reputable with excellent breeder/s. Why not have a chat with your breeder about your concerns?
Eckobird
All greys are different and they all grow at a different pace. The last picture of your grey was exactly how Ecko looked when I brought him home at 8 weeks old. I would ask your breeder if they are positive of his hatch date. If they are then thats ok, like I said all greys are different. It all depends on their bone structure.

Post edited by: caitb2007, at: 2009/07/27 18:
JJsHoney
My cousin is the one who is hand feeding for me, and he got the baby from his friend who he has a very good relationship with, he actually has the brother of my bird but he is 2 or 3 years old i think. and he is a big bird, there was some confusion when he first told me his hatch date, but I KNOW it was before my birthday, which is May 29th and that is a dif of 13 days, I went up to visit the second day he was at my cousins so maybe we are wrong by a week or so,and we kept saying "about" 2 weeks when talking about the baby But no matter what I won't take the baby (cant decide on a name still) adn I know he won't let me take the baby until he is positve that he has weaned, and he should be sending in the blood work this week so soon i will know boy or girl, and hopefully I can find out the right hatch day

Post edited by: JJsHoney, at: 2009/07/27 18:
Joolesgreyuk
JJ, everything sounds above-board to me so I wouldn't worry. Caitlyn is right and as I suspected they do vary.
JJsHoney
ok I have been thinking, and by just comparing pictures and what some articles have said my boyfriend and i think that maybe our baby is around 8 1/2 weeks, I know that they grow at their own pace, but atleast in this age group he mostly fits in, even with the all the yelling he does, and the not so interest in solid food,
Tycos_mom
I would not worry you just have a petite little Grey there is such a large difference with Grey's some are huge and some are small it really makes no difference My breeder had both small and large Grey's I chose the larger because Tyco is so big I didn't want her to maybe hurt her if she was too small I also have other large birds so I thought it best to keep them all the same. Luvparrots
Bonnie, your baby looks fine. As long as she weans at her own time and rate it really doesn't matter. If it bothers you, just ask the breeder.
sixwings
When I was hand-feeding, I too noticed a difference in size even though the birds were from the same clutch. Nothing to be concerned about. As long as they are healthy, they're eating and growing, size really isn't a concern. Lexi was actually the smallest of her clutch, but she eventually caught up to her siblings.
