Tycos_mom
To night me and my daughter where sitting outside with some of the neighbours and it was starting to get dark so we figured it was time to go in. My daughter went in just ahead of me and I gues she tripped over one of the kitchen chairs and spooked Jeepers well the front door was opened and thank goodness I was just comeing through the door at that moment because Jeepers was heading straight for the open door I saw him comeing and put up my arms waving the back and forth to block him from being able to get past me I kicked the door shut with my leg and fot while still trying to stop him from getting out thank goodness I got it closed and thank goodness I was comeing through at that moment of he would have been gone. I have never been so scared in my life my heart was just pounding It scared my so bad just the thought of losing one of my fids like that. It sure is scary I never ever want to have to go through anything like that again. When I put the birds to bed tonight they all got allot more pets and love given to them I even sang them a luluby I love them so much and I don't know how I would ever deal with losing them. I'm sure I would be a total basket case.
SunnyBird
All's well that ends well. Maybe you could put one of those bead curtains inside the front door? (Although your reflexes seemed to work really well!)
Char
right now Whisper has a lot of her flight feathers grown back in and everytime we get to this point I think about leaving her flighted. Then I will read something like this and that is enough for me. This goes to show it only takes one unpredictable thing to happen and they could be gone. It is more than just losing the bird. It is knowing that she would most likely suffer and die at the hands of a predator or succumb to the elements and starvation. Just too risky for me. I am not trying to start a debate. Pat I am sooo relieved that it turned out well. I know you would have been devastated if you lost one of your birds.

Post edited by: Char, at: 2009/07/24 14:
BaxtersMom
OMG. What a close call. Thank goodness it turned out ok. We had a scare like that a few months ago with our Amazon. It is so scary. It really makes you think after a scare like that. So glad it ended well.

Eckobird
OMG how scary that is!! I know what you mean though I had an almost close call this morning with Ecko. He never tries to fly out the door when we open it so this morning I was sweeping out the door and he started to fly towards me and my bf freaked out and I suddenly closed the door. My heart dropped when my bf did that and it turned out Ecko was just flying to his perch lol. But anyways I am so glad you had a good reflex to get Jeepers. That was a close call Pat, I am glad everything is ok.

Luvparrots
When I saw this post my heart almost stopped until my brain remembered the almost in your topic title. We all know how much you love your fids, it is so apparent in every post you write, the love and affection just shines right through. I am so very, very happy that you were there to divert Jeepers. I hope your daughter is alright and didn't take a fall. Happy Dance for a great outcome!!!
GorgASS
i'm so glad jeepers wasn't able to get outside!! i was worried about willis geting out too till i made a full length net to hang in the hallway between the livingroom and the front door. my kids are in and out all day long and i didn't want to take the chance of something happening to willis. he was also flying to the kitchen every 5 seconds, and landing on top of the fridge or the curtain rods or the tops of the cupboards or some other place i couldn't reach him. so i'd have to get a chair and get him down, only to come back in the livingroom and have him fly right back to the kitchen! most of my days (for a while) were spent getting willis from the kitchen lol. i didn't like him in the kitchen without me cuz there's so much he could get into, but he wouldn't stay in the livingroom. the net solved that problem too. so now he's blocked from the door and the kitchen. keep in mind he can get by it if he really wants to, but it does stop him for long enough to close the door and then some. i feel so much better after i put that up! lol. rbpittman
OH MY! I'm so glad Jeepers didn't get out of the door and I hope your daughter is ok. You're gonna have to teach Jeepers that he needs to be a gentleman and inquire after a lady in distress instead of looking out an open door! Just Kidding. I know you were at your wits end with that experience. So happy it was almost and that it didn't happen. love the idea of the net or bead curtain, it most definitely will deter those who are interested, if only long enough to get doors closed. -- Robin, Paul, Dixie, Sterling and Geoge
